Thalassaemia Education and Counseling Unit is established by the co-operation with Children’s Thalassaemia Foundation and Department of Paediatrics of Hong Kong University at twelfth of March, nineteen ninety-nine. It is also supported by Health Care and Promotion Foundation, CIBC CEF Children’s Miracle and Reuters Hong Kong Limited.

In Hong Kong, one of eight people is a Thalassaemia carrier - α-Thalassaemia or β-Thalassaemia minor (recessive). If both of the parents are carriers, they will give birth to a baby with Thalassaemia major in 25% of chance. For the good of next generation, please take a parental cheakup before marriage and pregnancy.
