International Thalassaemia Day

The 8th of May has been declared by Thalassaemia International Federation as the International Thalassaemia Day since 1994.

This Day is dedicated to all patients with Thalassaemia Major who are no longer with us but survive inour memories and to all those living, who together with their patents have joined in a long-term and difficult struggle to survive. The strong will of these patients to live has inspired scientists across the world to also join in this fight against Thalassaemia.

Jeans For GENES DAY

What is "Jeans for Genes Day"?

Jeans for Genes Day (JFG Day) originated in Australia (under the auspices of the Children's Medical Research Institute). It is presently running in its country of origin, Canada and UK. Funds raised so far are used to support research into genetic disorders affecting children and to provide advice and support services for the families. The main theme of the campaign is to 'throw out the usual dress rules and jump into your jeans to support children with this genetic defect on the JFG Day'. The Children's Thalassaemia Foundation is the first charity to introduce this idea to Hong Kong. This year, 8 May 2009 is chosen to be the "Jeans for Genes Day".
